Summary
Sarah Morgan cleans dishes in her kitchen as a storm approaches. Bob Miller, whom she has sent outside to supervise their daughter Summer, comes in with Summer as the weather worsens. Bob looks for excuses to stay involved—offering to fix the deck, help with chores, or pour wine—but Sarah rebuffs him, intent on keeping distance amid their ongoing divorce conflict.
Sarah turns on the news expecting coverage of Ryan Stevens’s arrest. A local anchor breaks the story: former sheriff Ryan Stevens has been arrested for DUI and vehicular manslaughter after running a red light and killing jogger Jackie Clarke. Sarah continues washing dishes, listening carefully.
The reporter adds that Stevens’s DNA was entered into CODIS to check against a prior hit-and-run; while no match was found for that case, a surprising match appeared in evidence from a double homicide over a decade ago. Startled, Sarah drops and breaks a plate. She orders Bob to turn up the TV.
The broadcast recounts the Kelly Summers murder, investigated by Ryan Stevens, which led to Adam Morgan’s conviction and death sentence, despite Sarah’s defense and later publicity through a Netflix docuseries. The reporter states that Stevens’s DNA profile matches evidence collected from Kelly’s body, raising doubts about Adam’s guilt and whether the wrong man was executed.
Bob turns to Sarah, visibly shaken, and suggests they talk. Sarah, hands trembling and internally furious that Stevens remained a loose end, refuses. She frames the revelation as another problem she must manage and rejects discussing it with Bob, whom she does not trust.
