When questioned about motive, Hudson and Olson left open possible connections to Stevens’s prior killing of the Clarke woman and committed to vetting online death threats. Hudson prepared the team for media scrutiny and noted the case would likely require a break due to the suspect’s professionalism and lack of evidence.

Shifting to the Kelly Summers case, Hudson reviewed legacy suspects and witnesses, noting multiple deaths: Ryan Stevens and Jesse Hook were deceased, as was Adam Morgan; Scott Summers’s whereabouts were unknown; Anne Davis had been reinterviewed without new information; and interviews with Bob Miller and Sarah Morgan were pending. He stressed the need to redo the case properly given prior investigative failures, and assigned three deputies to retrieve all stored physical evidence for reexamination.

Hudson then had Lieutenant Nagel summarize the Stacy Howard disappearance: Stacy was reported missing by her roommate Deena; her phone last pinged near her apartment six days earlier; her abandoned car had Stacy’s blood on the steering wheel; and her last text referenced meeting Bob Miller. Bob denied meeting her that night and claimed only a single prior one-night stand. BCI expedited DNA, and the team issued a critically missing adult alert and media outreach.

Nagel added that Stacy’s background included a conviction for blackmail and extortion of a congressman, raising a potential motive involving Bob, who is married to Sarah Morgan. The phone in Stacy’s car contained a message to a contact saved as “Bob Miller,” but the number was unregistered and there were no responsive texts. The vehicle was otherwise wiped of prints and DNA.

Despite calls to reinterview Bob or seek warrants, Hudson judged the evidence insufficient for a judge and decided against immediate confrontation. Instead, he ordered discreet, round-the-clock surveillance on Bob under Nagel with rotating teams. After dismissing the room, Hudson told Olson they needed to bring Sarah Morgan in for questioning, both due to Stevens’s death limiting sources and to probe what Sarah knew about Bob’s relationship with Stacy and whether Sarah might be a suspect.
