Summary
Blake narrates as he reels from Quillizabeth’s claim that he will stab Krista with a kitchen knife in their living room. Quillizabeth shakes uncontrollably and insists her vision is certain, pointing to the exact spot on the rug where she claims it will happen. Blake tries to usher her out, and Quillizabeth recoils, pleading directly with Krista to believe her and leave Blake.
Krista ultimately leads Quillizabeth to the door as the older woman repeatedly calls Blake dangerous and urges Krista to get out, sobbing as she goes. After Quillizabeth leaves, Blake collapses on the sofa and calls her crazy, while Krista appears pale and unsettled. Blake asks if Krista believes the prediction; she denies it, but hesitates and sits at a distance, admitting it was jarring.
Blake asserts he would never hurt Krista and presses her to acknowledge his character. Krista brings up a lingering doubt: where Blake got the down payment for the brownstone six months earlier after previously saying he lacked the cash. The question implies concern related to the accusation that cost Blake his job.
Blake angrily replies that he cashed in his retirement and offers to show receipts. Krista softly says she believes him, though Blake remains unsure given her hesitation and the recent accusation from Quillizabeth. Their relationship’s relative newness and Blake’s recent setbacks intensify the trust strain.
As Blake searches for words to reassure Krista, the doorbell rings, signaling the arrival of the next prospective tenant and cutting off the conversation.
