Blake reflects on previous, unsuitable applicants, including a kickboxer who kicked a hole in the wall, a woman with a dangerous dog, and a man who tried to drill into their wiring.

Expecting two more candidates, Elizabeth and Whitney, Krista changes her flour-dusted shirt while Blake answers the door for the first arrival. An older woman in layered robes with frizzy white hair and a silver hat introduces herself as “Quillizabeth,” not Elizabeth. Before entering, she sprinkles salt across the threshold, claiming it protects against evil spirits, and continues a ritual while stating she has a strong connection to the spiritual world.

Inside, Quillizabeth inspects the living room and photos, clucking disapprovingly and criticizing the cookies as toxic and unhealthy. She claims to sense a draft caused by past owners’ spirits and offers to perform a channeling ceremony if she moves in. Blake, skeptical, discourages her interest by suggesting they may already have someone for the room.

Krista joins them, and Quillizabeth for the first time shows approval, calling Krista pretty. When Krista and Quillizabeth shake hands, Quillizabeth recoils immediately, trembling and stating she must leave because the place is too small. Krista presses to understand, noting Quillizabeth has not even seen the bedroom.

Visibly frightened, Quillizabeth asks to speak to Krista outside in private. Blake objects as they have another showing soon.
