Four hours after Justin first got sick, he is in Emma’s bed with the bathroom trash can while they watch a movie between bouts of vomiting. Emma rubs his back, checks his temperature, and jokes with him about how disastrous their time together has been. Their teasing about disease, food cravings, and future takeout keeps the mood light, but Justin is deeply affected by how tenderly Emma takes care of him.

As they talk, Justin tries to turn the miserable situation into humor, and Emma plays along. Then Emma asks whether this counts as their fourth date. Because their original arrangement was built around four dates, the question immediately darkens Justin’s mood; he does not want this to be the end. Even so, Emma reasons that they have eaten together and watched a movie, so it qualifies, and Justin reluctantly agrees.

Later, the medicine Justin brought for Emma finally helps both of them settle. Around six hours in, Justin can keep food down, and they nap, eat soup, shower, and watch another movie. Emma continues caring for him, bringing him tea and staying physically close, which makes the connection between them feel even more natural and intimate.

While Emma is out of the room, Justin studies her surroundings and realizes how little of the space is truly hers. That makes him think about Emma’s transient life, how much she must live out of two suitcases, and how often she has to leave places behind. The thought leads Justin to his own history of loss and goodbyes, from his parents to the prospect of eventually losing Emma too.

By the end of the chapter, Justin understands that their closeness is no longer just about illness lowering their guard. Even after he starts feeling better, they keep touching, cuddling, and falling into easy intimacy. Justin admits to himself that trying to "get it out of his system" physically would only make him want more, but he still cannot stop taking comfort in Emma, even though he knows her eventual departure will hurt.
