After Emma calls sounding dangerously ill and disoriented, Justin leaves immediately. Worried that Emma may need emergency help, Justin decides against calling 911 only because Emma is a nurse and did not say it was an emergency. He quickly arranges for Brad to take the dog, asks Leigh to watch the kids, leaves Alex in charge until Leigh arrives, and drives to Neil’s house so he can get to Emma on the island.

At the mansion, Justin learns from Maria that Neil left with Amber two days earlier and locked the yacht keys in a safe. With no boat available and Emma no longer answering her phone, Justin grows more desperate. He searches the neighboring docks for any possible way across the water, but when no one answers at a nearby house, he returns and improvises a reckless plan.

Justin grabs a decorative paddle and drags a rainbow unicorn pool float into the water. He paddles toward Emma’s cottage in brutal conditions, fighting wind, waves, exhaustion, and sunburn. The rosebush he once gave Emma becomes his visual marker, and his fear for Emma keeps him moving even when progress feels almost impossible.

Once he reaches the island, Justin runs to the house and finds the front door locked. After getting no response from Emma through the windows, Justin forces his way inside through the rotting front door. He finds Emma in bed, curled around a trash can, feverish, weak, and relieved to see him.

Emma tells Justin she has been unable to stop vomiting for thirty-six hours and cannot keep water down. Realizing Emma is too sick to move and likely needs treatment quickly, Justin calls Briana, Benny’s sister and an ER doctor, instead of taking Emma straight to the hospital. Briana agrees to meet him at the dock in twenty minutes, and Justin prepares to go get her after replacing Emma’s trash bag and putting a cold washcloth on her forehead.
