106. A Hundred Discordant Rhythms
Contains spoilersOverview
Navani turns her trap on Raboniel, wounding her with the anti-Voidlight dagger, but not enough to kill; Raboniel admits she sought an end to the endless war and urges Navani to flee as Moash returns and injures Navani. Below, Kaladin’s grief explodes into ruthless precision as he executes the Pursuer.
He then chases the Heavenly Ones holding Lirin, only for Lirin to be hurled from Urithiru. Kaladin jumps after his father as the Pursuer’s soldiers move to massacre the helpless Radiants.
Summary
Kaladin, shattered by Teft’s murder, collapses into numb despair, questioning his identity and purpose as Syl can offer only silent support. He feels he has failed everyone who relied on him, and the moment stretches as onlookers—Fused, singers, and humans—stand in stunned silence.
Elsewhere, Navani springs her painrial trap and, through blinding agony, drives the anti‑Voidlight dagger into Raboniel’s chest. The strike lacks sufficient Voidlight to be fatal, leaving Raboniel grievously wounded but alive. Raboniel acknowledges Navani’s cleverness and confesses she sought a way to end the endless war, urging Navani to take the notebook and flee. Moash arrives, hurling a knife that wounds Navani, and advances with his Shardblade.
Back in the atrium, Leshwi frees Lirin’s bonds as the gathered Heavenly Ones pay respect to Kaladin’s grief. The Pursuer rejects restraint, attacks, and Kaladin erupts, moving with terrifying speed and yellow‑red light in his eyes. Kaladin pins the Pursuer to the stormlit window, Lashes the ground to pull on the Fused’s head, and decapitates him without hesitation.
Ignoring Leshwi, Kaladin targets the Heavenly Ones carrying Lirin. He launches skyward using Navani’s Lashing fabrial, maims one Fused, and blasts another away through the stairwell. Syl, distraught, admits she cannot remember the Words as Kaladin reaches the roof amid the raging storm.
Cornered, the last Heavenly One panics and throws Lirin into the black tempest beyond the tower’s edge. Realizing why he climbed, Kaladin rushes to the brink and, remembering an earlier ledge and an older despair, hurls himself into the storm after his father. Meanwhile, the Pursuer’s soldiers, unable to face Kaladin, turn toward the infirmary to slaughter the helpless Radiants per their commander’s final order.
