Teft, cloaked and posing as a worker with Lift disguised as his daughter, edges through the atrium crowd while Kaladin confronts the Pursuer. Using the distraction, Teft coaxes a stormform guard at the infirmary door, then tackles him inside. Despite agonizing shocks, Teft holds the singer down while Lift heals him, and he finally pins the Regal and seals the door, planning to rouse Radiants, grab Kaladin’s family, and flee.

As Teft turns to survey the room, Lift screams. A black‑clad figure rises from beneath a sheet and slashes Lift’s legs with a Shardblade, dropping her. Teft glimpses Kaladin’s parents and brother bound in the back. Moash, glowing with Stormlight, advances, intent on Teft, while Lift lies limp and silent.

Meanwhile, Kaladin refuses to flee the Pursuer’s familiar tactic, grappling instead to buy time for Teft and Lift. He taunts the Fused, promising to kill him again and again until the legend of the Pursuer becomes a legend of defeat. He then triggers Navani’s device to yank himself free across the floor, rises beside Syl, and draws only a scalpel.

Back in the infirmary, Moash addresses Teft, who readies a long knife and positions himself away from fallen Radiants. Moash casts black sand from a sack and closes in, wielding the assassin’s Honorblade. The immediate stakes sharpen: Lift is maimed, Kaladin’s family are captives, and Teft must face Moash alone.
