Summary
On Saturday practice, Coach Sima praises Scarlett’s back 3.5 somersault tuck as his best-seen collegiate dive, then needles her about still blowing inward dives. With individual corrections scheduled, Scarlett leaves the pool and receives a terse text from Pen: “We need to talk,” which she fears is about Lukas.
Outside the dining hall, Pen appears grave before bursting into an “I told you so,” revealing Lukas called that morning. Pen says she’s fine with Scarlett and Lukas pursuing sex and kink, noting that Scarlett seems interested in him primarily for that. Scarlett admits she lacks bandwidth for deeper feelings.
Pen confides she initiated the breakup and worried about Lukas dating. She describes Lukas as loyal but overwhelming and not naturally affectionate, contrasting him with Theo, a softer, affectionate partner who calls her “honey” and with whom she comfortably slept. The contrast helps Pen feel more like herself.
Their conversation eases lingering tensions between friends, synchro partners, and exes. As they relax on the grass, Scarlett realizes Pen’s full name—Penelope Diana Ross—adding a light, intimate cap to the talk.
