Summary
Scarlett meets Pen on the swings near the club. Pen immediately says she owes Scarlett an apology and explains she tracked Scarlett via shared location to offer it in person.
Pen admits she assumed Scarlett and Lukas were only casual and that, while dating Theo, she barely thought about them. Carissa later sent Amsterdam photos of Scarlett and Lukas, triggering Pen’s realization that Lukas was smitten with Scarlett and that her own relationship with him had long been hollow and codependent.
Pen describes feeling isolated after Theo ended things and during the false positive steroid scare. Seeing Scarlett win NCAAs while Lukas celebrated with Scarlett intensified Pen’s pain, so she cast Scarlett as the villain. After cooling down and talking with Lukas, Pen recognized their romantic relationship was long dead and that she had used him as a “crash mat.”
Scarlett listens, insists nothing is that simple, and admits she could have told Pen she was falling for Lukas. Pen owns her cruelty, says she stole Scarlett’s joy, and offers to accept any consequence or work to make amends. Scarlett accepts the apology as a tentative truce.
As Pen leaves, Scarlett asks if she is returning to California. When Pen nods, Scarlett says she’s also going to the airport and offers Pen a ride, signaling a fragile reconciliation and forward movement.
