Summary
At a disappointing worlds for USA Diving, Scarlett places ninth on platform. Media questions spotlight her underperformance; she repeats media-trained lines but feels furious and defeated. Back at the hotel, she and teammate Akane watch diving fails to numb the sting before Scarlett heads to Lukas’s room.
Lukas immediately notices bruises from a botched warm-up and insists on treating them. As he applies lotion, Scarlett cries, admitting confusion at her own anger. Lukas explains she’s moved from survival to striving and encourages using that anger as fuel. He shares his own failures—strokes he couldn’t qualify in, a rejected school application, a weak model, a breakup—leveling the ground between them.
