Chapter Fifty-One
Overview
After escaping Oosant, the group pushes onward without resting, aware the millennial celebration deadline is closing in. Sora recounts how she avoided revealing her training while being threatened and assaulted, and she notes Ty’s nightmares as the cost of killing begins to surface.
In conversation with Mikail, Sora learns he has hidden family pain and sees him shut down under scrutiny, while the plan shifts toward a stop at Count Dal’s estate before Tamneki. Despite growing gratitude toward the team, Sora internally commits to prioritizing Daysum and the crown, even if betrayal becomes necessary.
Summary
At daylight on the Eastern Road in Yusan, the assassins briefly stop to eat, then immediately return to the carriage, eager to put distance between themselves and Oosant before the millennial celebration.
Sora rides groggy and unsettled, unable to stop thinking about the previous night. She reflects that she was not targeted as an assassin but as a “girl to take,” and she notices Ty whimpering from nightmares, recognizing how killing can haunt someone new to it.
Mikail sits beside Sora and checks on her. Sora explains that after Royo was knocked out, she resisted only enough to avoid revealing combat training; she went with the men to avoid being marked as “something different.” She recounts being taken to a back bedroom, threatened, and struck, but says the barmaid’s warning about an approaching king’s guard interrupted events long enough for the group to reach her in time.
Mikail asks whether Count Seok (the Count of Gain) has ever mentioned Oosant, and Sora says no, suggesting her sister Daysum would know more because Daysum listens for secrets. Mikail briefly lies about having no sister, then admits his sister died very young; Euyn’s attention makes Mikail close off, so Sora changes the subject.
Mikail describes Tamneki’s food and entertainment districts and confirms the group will stop first at Count Dal’s country estate. As Aeri chats with Ty, Sora watches them and privately recommits to her real priority: securing the etherum crown for Daysum, even if that means double-crossing the others.
