Chapter Sixty
Overview
A tense dinner is derailed when a messenger reports Count Dal has been found dead in Tamneki, a death Mikail suspects is an assassination timed to disrupt their plot against King Joon. The team wavers and considers calling everything off, but Mikail refuses to retreat and insists the Millennial Championship remains their best—and perhaps only—chance to strike.
To replace Dal’s promised access, Mikail proposes using the northern count, Bay Chin, to get Sora close to the king. One by one, the assassins recommit, and even Aeri finally agrees to stay, preserving the mission despite the setback.
Summary
At dinner in Count Dal’s Aseyo home, the team sits in tense, suspicious silence in their formal clothes. Euyn takes the head seat by rank, while everyone waits for Dal to appear; after half an hour, it becomes clear something is wrong.
A messenger arrives and presents a calling card to Euyn. The note is not from Dal but from Dal’s Tamneki head of household, and it reports that the eastern count is dead, supposedly from a heart attack at his villa. Mikail immediately doubts the official cause and suspects the death’s timing is connected to King Joon’s long-standing hit on Dal.
With Dal gone, the group questions whether to abandon the mission: Sora, Aeri, and Ty voice hesitation, and even Euyn admits he cannot see how they proceed. Mikail refuses to retreat, arguing they have come too far and that Euyn’s survival depends on moving forward.
Mikail declares the plan will continue unchanged in its key timing: the Millennial Championship, when Joon will be exposed outside normal palace safety. Since Dal can no longer serve as their route to introduce Sora to the king, Mikail proposes using the northern count, Bay Chin, as an unwitting substitute for access.
Mikail forces each assassin to recommit. Sora agrees because Joon’s death would free her sister; Ty backs Sora; Royo stays for Aeri and because Euyn has his blade; Euyn nods his support. After Mikail bluntly says they will proceed without her if needed, Aeri finally agrees as well, keeping the team—and their crown-stealing plan—intact.
