Chapter Fifty-Three
Overview
Euyn and the others reach Count Dal’s opulent Aseyo villa, only to find Dal absent and the household unprepared—an awkward start that heightens Euyn’s sense of danger. With a bounty on his head, Euyn leans on Mikail for protection and even arranges their baths to avoid being alone with servants. While trying to relax, Euyn’s paranoia sharpens into fresh doubts about Aeri’s true history and Sora’s lethal capabilities.
Summary
Euyn arrives with the group at Count Dal’s sprawling, showy country villa in the town of Aseyo. The estate staff rush to greet them, but the head of household apologizes that Dal is away in Tamneki preparing for the coming celebration and admits he did not expect guests so soon.
When the head of household recognizes Euyn and bows, Euyn reads the reaction as surprise that Euyn is still alive, making the welcome feel ominous. Walking the halls to their suites, Euyn notices small changes like the servants’ uniforms now being green instead of blue, but the villa otherwise feels the same as it did years ago, when Dal inherited the title after his father’s death.
Worried that any valet might try to collect the bounty on his head, Euyn refuses to be alone and goes into Mikail’s room while baths are prepared. Mikail reminds Euyn that their purpose is to secure an alliance supporting Euyn’s claim and warns that Euyn’s snark about Dal will not help.
Euyn admits fear of being killed in the villa, and Mikail agrees to let Euyn bathe in Mikail’s room while Mikail waits nearby and then switch. The two trade flirtatious remarks and plan to be together later, underscoring their private relationship despite Yusan’s rigid class hierarchy.
In the bathing room, Euyn dismisses the young servant and tries to relax, but suspicion persists. Euyn thinks about how dangerous “harmless” girls can be—especially Sora—and wonders why Aeri was not shaken by recent killings, questioning whether Aeri has killed before as Euyn sinks into the steaming tub.
