Summary
In driving rain on a deserted, circular plateau at Stormseat, Shallan argues that the regular shape marks the Oathgate’s dais, a public symbol rather than something hidden. Pattern warns that bonded spren are crafting a storm, and Renarin—disturbed by wind blowing west to east—names it the Everstorm. Shallan organizes search teams and asks Renarin to cut into a rock-encrusted structure to reach what the crem has buried.
Meanwhile, Adolin leads a thousand men through a hollowed stone mound behind the chanting Parshendi reserves. He slices exits and springs a surprise assault, cutting down disoriented singers before they can coordinate. Sickened by the slaughter and lacking the Thrill, he drops his Blade—only to be struck by a Shardbearer. Eshonai engages him, and Adolin welcomes the honest duel.
On another plateau, Dalinar returns wounded after extracting half of Roion’s army, though the northern ground is lost and the Parshendi song continues. A field surgeon tends him; Navani arrives and steadies him as they assess that while Adolin holds and Aladar endures, parity is defeat if the song completes. Roion panics.
Dalinar calls to the voice from his visions and is answered by the Stormfather, who says the Parshendi are summoning his opposite—a deadly storm—and that it cannot be stopped. Declaring that a daughter disobeys and that Dalinar will see no more visions, the Stormfather departs, leaving Dalinar to face the coming calamity without guidance.
Back in the warcamp palace, a bleeding Kaladin stands over the unconscious Elhokar as Moash and Graves arrive. Kaladin bars their path with a spear, arguing against murder and pleading for justice through proper means. Moash hesitates but ultimately seals his helm, intent on proceeding, while Kaladin refuses to yield.
