Overview

Kaladin surveys the shattered plains, learns Szeth’s sword is an Honorblade, and reunites with Bridge Four to reach Urithiru. There, Stormlight scarcity and reliance on Shallan to operate Oathgates become clear while Kaladin confirms Elhokar is hidden safely. Lopen manifests Surgebinding, regrowing his arm, as Moash flees with Graves to the Diagram amid talk of the Everstorm and Voidbringers.

Summary

On the newly ravaged Shattered Plains, Kaladin examines the destruction from the Everstorm’s clash with the highstorm. Syl reveals Szeth’s weapon is an Honorblade that grants Windrunner powers without spren checks and consumes dangerous amounts of Stormlight. Kaladin reunites with Bridge Four at the circular Oathgate plateau, finding Rlain revealed and pardoned, and learning Rod died and Bisig lost a hand. Teft notes some bridgemen briefly glowed, hinting at Windrunner squires. Kaladin, now with pale lighteyes, uses Syl as a key to activate the Oathgate.

In Urithiru, Shallan manages exploration as Adolin and Navani organize wounded and supplies. Tests show Oathgate transport drains Stormlight proportional to passengers, making Light a strategic resource and leaving the expedition dependent on Shallan to travel. Dalinar’s spanreeds bring troubling news: Kholinar riots and the missing king. Bridge Four arrives through the Oathgate with Kaladin, who presents the Honorblade and reports the Assassin in White dead. Pressed by Navani and Dalinar, Kaladin confirms Elhokar is alive and hidden somewhere nobody would think to look.

Cut to Little Herdaz: Lopen’s family shelters the wounded Elhokar, while Lopen’s mother bullies the king into eating. Amid orders to evacuate the warcamps, Lopen finally draws Stormlight; the Light fades quickly but leaves a nub of regrown flesh on his missing arm, prompting him to demand more spheres.

Elsewhere, Moash rides with Graves, fleeing the warcamps as masses evacuate toward the Plains. Graves speaks of the Diagram, the Everstorm, and parshmen as Voidbringers, lamenting a misread plan to replace Elhokar with Dalinar. He intends to bring Moash to the Diagram for their “salvation” effort. Moash recognizes he has been used as they roll away.
