He reveals he has seen through Veil, claims the Ghostbloods rescued her brothers after House Davar fell, and offers them to her safely while pressing a debt for the broken Soulcaster. He urges Veil to join them, promising answers about her family, then departs, leaving Shallan shaken.

Shallan briefly meets Adolin, who praises her and arranges a room. Inside, Pattern insists it is time to face the truth. The chamber shifts under Shallan’s Lightweaving into her father’s study, where she relives the night her mother learned of her powers and tried to kill her. As a child, Shallan summoned Pattern as a Shardblade and killed her mother; her father took the blame and hid the Blade, a secret that ruined their family. Shallan weeps, confessing hatred for Pattern even as he accepts eventual death.

In Dalinar’s warcamp, Amaram writes to Restares that the Sons of Honor succeeded in provoking a crisis to bring back the Heralds. He cuts into the asylum and attempts to retrieve Talenel. A Ghostblood assassin fires poisoned darts—Talenel catches them with sudden lucidity, then lapses back into muttering. Amaram escorts him to a coach, shaken but determined.

Elsewhere, Szeth awakens on bare rock, restored moments after death by Nale, Herald of Justice, using a fabrial. Nale declares Szeth worthy, offers training with the Skybreakers, and directs him toward judging the Shin leaders. He gifts Szeth a sheathed, smoke-dark Shardblade that speaks into Szeth’s mind, and Szeth accepts this rebirth and task.
