On the camera feed she sees two angels from the 33rd Legion—Commander Isaiah Tiberian and Hunt Athalar, the infamous Umbra Mortis—waiting outside. She stalls them, claiming she's with clients and telling them to come back in three weeks. Hunt and Isaiah wait across the street until the Fae couple leaves, at which point Bryce waves cheekily and slams the door shut. Hunt pounds on the intercom and announces they're there about a murder, which finally gets Bryce to open the door.

Inside the gallery, Isaiah informs Bryce that Maximus Tertian was murdered near the Meat Market the previous night, and that she may have been one of the last people to see him alive. Bryce confirms their meeting at the White Raven was to finalize a deal for the gallery, after which Tertian got aggressive and she left. She shows no grief over his death. Isaiah asks about Prince Ruhn Danaan's involvement; Bryce identifies Ruhn as a distant cousin and deflects further questions. Hunt notes that several people close to Bryce have been killed shortly after interacting with her.

Hunt then reveals the true purpose of their visit: Governor Micah is on his way to the gallery because Tertian's injuries were identical to those inflicted on Danika Fendyr and the Pack of Devils two years ago. This means the convicted killer, Philip Briggs—imprisoned for summoning a demon using black summoning salts—may not have been responsible for Danika's death after all. Bryce is visibly shaken but composed. She calls her boss Jesiba, who instructs her to lock everything down before Micah arrives. A fire sprite named Lehabah whispers through the archives door asking if Bryce is okay; Bryce orders her and chimera Syrinx to stay quiet downstairs. Bryce then prepares for the Archangel's imminent arrival.
