On Sunday morning after the Read-a-thon, Daphne approaches Miles and they take a walk along the misty lakefront. The silence between them feels like reconnection rather than awkwardness. Daphne thanks him for being there and admits she knows he visited her father.

Miles explains his earlier panic: he hadn't woken up regretting their night together but had been called away by a sobbing Petra, who told him she and Peter broke up because she didn't want kids and Peter did. Miles told Petra he loved Daphne. Petra got into his head, suggesting Daphne couldn't handle uncertainty and that Miles wasn't equipped to give her the family she wanted. Miles confesses he tried to confront her father to prove himself worthy, having spent his life feeling like he was settling or making up for something with Petra. With Daphne, love feels easy and undeserved-but-given.

Daphne leads Miles to a run-down bungalow with a For Sale sign-the house she'd fantasized about. She admits his confession terrified her because it made her see a whole new life she suddenly wanted. Miles begs her to stay and come home with him.

She needs a life that isn't built solely around him, so that whether or not they last, she remains whole. She declares her love in a tumbling speech, calling him wonderful and saying he is far better than anything she'd pictured.

They kiss on the sidewalk as a car honks. Since her apartment isn't ready, she agrees to go back to his place (after exiling Julia to Ashleigh's). Daphne envisions a future of seasons together in Waning Bay-the chosen home and second act she's eager to be surprised by.
