After their argument in the poppy field, Kai finally says the thing he has been trying to deny: he is in love with Paedyn. Paedyn tries to resist because their histories, their fathers, and the divide between Ordinary and Elite still stand between them, but Kai answers each objection by choosing her over old hatred.
