Summary
Sevin arrived in Hell screaming in pain, his skin bubbling as if burned by acid, a consequence Wells and Remi identified as the Hunting Blade passing through his heart. Rowin wrapped Sevin in a blanket and held his hand until the worst subsided. When Knox suddenly appeared and ordered Rowin away, Genevieve stayed with Sevin, who spoke candidly about immortality, pain, and love, teasing out her conflicted feelings for Rowin and encouraging her to risk love despite the dangers. Sevin also revealed Rowin’s ferocity in protecting Genevieve and clarified details about Blood Wraith magic and their siblings.
After nearly an hour, with Sevin asleep, Knox reappeared and insisted Genevieve accompany him to his trove. At the threshold, Knox demanded a bargain: in exchange for a free choice of one item, Genevieve would lose all memory of her time inside, retaining only knowledge of the chosen item. She agreed and entered a treasure-stuffed vault of artifacts, briefly noting a Soul Lock and other temptations while Knox showcased various powerful items, including a time-altering watch and a potion to erase a person from one’s mind.
Knox then produced a glass skull vial of glowing blue liquid, which Genevieve instantly recognized as a cure for Crimson Rot. He admitted he had possessed it and proposed a deal: if Genevieve convinced Prince Salem to return to Hell, she could choose the cure upon winning Favored and Vira would be healed; if she refused, he threatened that everyone would lose. He further revealed that Wellington had confirmed Salem’s absence to the King, and that the King sought to use Genevieve’s presence as leverage.
Genevieve rejected betraying her sister Ophelia and Salem, asserting she and Rowin would find the cure themselves. Knox countered by warning she would forget this entire exchange upon leaving and then disclosed he created Crimson Rot. He claimed to have let a few vials into the world to spark rumors without enabling anyone to track a cure. When Genevieve insisted others must have it, Knox crushed the vial in his fist, destroying the immediate opportunity.
Genevieve tried to memorize the existence of the cure before stepping back through the mirror, but her memory was wiped as agreed. Disoriented in the dusty room, she realized the loss just as Rowin found her and urged immediate departure. He guided her to a Hellmouth used only for exiting and returned with her to Enchantra’s study.
Back in Enchantra, Genevieve questioned Rowin about Knox’s earlier summons and whether it concerned the Hunt or Vira’s cure. Rowin, tense and evasive, said Wells had gone to Nocturnia for information and obtained it, but he offered no details and suggested they rest, warning the coming days would be long. As they lay apart in bed, Genevieve felt a growing dread, running her fingers over the bracelet he had given her and wondering why she felt left in the dark if she was “where the light is.”
