Contains spoilersOverview
At dawn beneath the willow, Kai and Paedyn wake after spending their last night together before her wedding to Kitt. They share tender, intimate moments, confess love, and acknowledge the inevitability of Paedyn’s duty. Paedyn leaves to prepare for the ceremony, and Kai resolves he cannot watch her marry, committing to serve as her Enforcer afterward.
Summary
As morning light filters through the willow, Kai wakes on a damp blanket and finds Paedyn nearby. He watches her dress and helps tie her corset, the moment charged with quiet intimacy and playful banter that softens into solemn gratitude from Paedyn for their night together.
Kai affirms his love for Paedyn, and Paedyn admits she regrets not having more time with him. They kiss as if to preserve the memory, each aware it is a farewell before her wedding to Kitt. The scene underscores their bond and the pain of impending separation.
Paedyn says she must leave to be readied by Ellie, and Kai confesses he cannot watch her marry. Paedyn pleads with Kai not to make it harder, insisting she must fulfill her duty and invoking their shared belief that fate is not chosen.
As Paedyn backs toward the willow’s edge, she tells Kai she would choose him every time if she could. Kai, with a burning throat and breaking heart, promises to see her after the wedding, addressing her as his queen and himself as her Enforcer.
With tears and a final, regretful look, Paedyn parts the willow branches and leaves to face her future without Kai present at the ceremony. Kai remains behind, accepting his role while grieving their parting.
