Oraya and Raihn reach a dark cave before dawn and hide there after escaping the poisoned hunting grounds. Raihn is badly weakened by hunger and injury, while Oraya uses Nightfire to light the cave and sees how close he is to collapse. Their isolation forces them to confront what happened between them and how dangerous his bloodlust has become.

Raihn apologizes for refusing to leave earlier and admits that he was ashamed to let Oraya see that side of him. When he says their remaining choices are death in the sun, madness from poisoned animal blood, or dying in the cave, Oraya makes a decisive choice. Refusing to watch him die, she offers him her own blood despite the personal fear and history tied to being bitten.

Raihn resists at first because he understands what the act means to Oraya, but Oraya insists that she trusts him. He carefully puts the dagger in her hand so she can stop him if needed, then feeds from her throat. The bite restores him, but the venom and the attraction already simmering between them make the encounter intensely erotic, revealing how much desire both of them have been holding back.
