Chapter 44
Overview
On the eve of the final Kejari trial, Oraya and Raihn finally act on the desire that has been building between them and spend the night together. Their intimacy becomes more than physical when Raihn recognizes Oraya’s past sexual trauma, reassures her that she is safe and in control, and helps transform fear into trust. The chapter raises the stakes of the coming trial by making their emotional attachment undeniable just before one or both of them may die.
Summary
After Oraya kisses Raihn in the alley, the two nearly give in to their desire there, but Raihn stops because he wants their first time together to mean more than a reckless moment beside slaughter. They fly back to the Moon Palace before dawn, exchanging tender kisses, and once they are alone in Raihn’s room the urgency between them intensifies. Even as Oraya wants him desperately, the nearness of the final trial hangs over them, because both know they may die tomorrow.
As they begin to undress, Oraya’s confidence falters when intimacy stirs memories of a previous sexual experience tied to the scar on her throat. Raihn notices her hesitation, realizes the scar came from a man who hurt her, and stops to make sure she feels safe. He tells Oraya that she is in control and that they can go as slowly as she needs, which matters because his care turns the encounter from mere desire into an act of trust.
Raihn focuses first on Oraya’s pleasure, easing her fear and helping her let go of the tension attached to that old memory. Once Oraya regains her confidence, she shifts the balance between them, touching him and openly enjoying the power she has over him. Their usual dynamic of challenge and vulnerability remains present, but it now becomes playful and mutual rather than defensive.
When they finally have sex, Oraya asks Raihn not to hold back, and he follows her lead while still making her safety central. In the middle of their passion, she asks him to say her name when he climaxes, mirroring his earlier demand, and he does. Afterward, Oraya realizes he has left only kisses at her throat rather than new wounds, and both of them understand that this night has emotionally undone them. Raihn immediately jokes about wanting more, but beneath the humor the chapter confirms that their bond has deepened into something far more dangerous and meaningful on the eve of the final Kejari trial.
