After spending the night together, Oraya and Raihn wake in bed and briefly joke about the coming trial, but Oraya cannot ignore her fear that one of them may die. Realizing she does not want to be left with only fragments of Raihn after the Kejari, she asks about the people who depend on him and asks for the full story of his past.

Raihn explains that as a human guard traveling by ship, he was wrecked on the shores of the House of Night and was Turned by a powerful, ancient vampire when he was near death. Raihn had accepted because he wanted to live for his pregnant wife and future, but the vampire never let him go. Raihn describes the long, brutal aftermath of his Turning and reveals that his maker kept and abused the people he controlled, reducing them to objects for his own amusement. Oraya responds not with pity but with anger on Raihn’s behalf, and Raihn admits he spent seventy years hating vampires and himself.

Raihn goes on to say that during that captivity he met Nessanyn, the vampire’s wife, who was also trapped. Loving Nessanyn gave him a reason to keep living, and through her he met other suffering people, including Rishan who needed help. When the vampire’s power began collapsing, Raihn escaped, but Nessanyn refused to leave and died with her husband. Raihn later tried and failed to reclaim his old human life, then spent years wandering through different vampire Houses and human lands, running from his past until he returned to Obitraes and found Mische.

Raihn says Mische pushed him to stop running and face his responsibility to protect others; she even entered the Kejari first because she knew he would not let her face it alone. Oraya recognizes how closely Raihn’s worldview matches her own, and that recognition makes the final conflict between them even harder to bear. Holding her blade, she silently considers withdrawing or letting Raihn win so he can use Nyaxia’s wish for his people, but Raihn sees her despair and insists that Vincent did not define her. He tells Oraya that her refusal to stop fighting is real strength and begs her not to surrender.

Oraya answers by making Raihn swear that he will also keep fighting. They agree that if they fight, they will fight to the end, even though both understand that everything between them has changed. When night falls, they dress in silence, share a final exchange outside their room, and go to the waiting chamber where Angelika, Ibrihim, and the Ministaer are already assembled. After Ibrihim and Angelika enter the threshold to the last trial, Oraya grips Raihn’s hand in one brief moment of hesitation, then forces herself to let go and walks through the door.
