Chapter 47
Overview
With Ibrihim dead, the Kejari narrows to Oraya, Raihn, and Angelika, and the final contest becomes a direct fight to the death. Angelika nearly kills Oraya, but a sudden hesitation after looking toward the crowd gives Oraya the opening to strike her down.
Angelika’s death leaves Oraya and Raihn as the last two survivors, forcing the lovers into the final confrontation they have both feared. The chapter turns the tournament’s stakes fully personal, as survival, power, and love become impossible to separate.
Summary
After Oraya kills Ibrihim, the arena reveals the other survivors of the trial: Raihn and Angelika. Seeing Raihn alive briefly reassures Oraya, but the final door slams shut behind them, making clear that the last stage is simple and brutal: the three remaining contestants must kill one another.
Angelika immediately chooses Oraya as her target and attacks with single-minded fury, barely acknowledging Raihn even when he tries to distract or wound her. Oraya survives through speed and stubbornness, but Angelika’s greater strength steadily overwhelms her. During the fight, Oraya realizes this is not only strategy; Angelika seems personally driven to destroy her.
As the fight drags on, Oraya is badly injured and finally trapped when Angelika uses blood magic to force Oraya to her knees. Raihn tries to intervene but cannot break Angelika’s focus for long. With Angelika preparing to kill her, Oraya expects to die, but notices Raihn staring desperately into the crowd as if appealing to someone unseen.
At the last second, Angelika looks up toward the stands and falters, letting her blood magic slip. The instant Oraya regains control of her body, she drives her blade into Angelika’s chest and follows with Nightfire, killing her. Angelika dies with a smile and whispers, “Good luck,” suggesting she knowingly allowed the opening.
With Angelika dead, only Oraya and Raihn remain in the arena. Oraya is struck by the contrast between Raihn’s battle-hardened appearance and the tenderness she knows in him, and for a moment considers surrender. But both understand that each has too much at stake to give up the victory, so when Raihn gives her an encouraging nod, they accept the necessity of the final duel, and Raihn makes the first move.
