Overview

At the DuPray sheriff’s office, two Institute operatives posing as lost tourists confront the locals. Luke Ellis recognizes Michelle Robertson and accuses her of killing his parents, triggering a standoff. Tim Jamieson swiftly disarms the threat, shooting Robertson and helping subdue Denny Williams, just as Julia Sigsby orders outside gunmen to open fire on the building.

Summary

Tim Jamieson tells Luke Ellis to stay back as he and Deputy Wendy Gullickson move toward the front office, where a pleasant-sounding couple claims to be lost and asking for directions. Luke bursts in and identifies the woman as the person who sprayed him and abducted him, accusing her of murdering his parents. Tim notes a fleeting look of recognition on the woman’s face despite her feigned confusion.

Reverting to cop mode, Tim demands identification. Sheriff John Ashworth supports the request. Despite the pretense, Luke warns that the pair are armed. As the woman and man reach for their “IDs,” Sheriff John orders them to show their hands, but both continue drawing guns: Michelle Robertson produces a Sig Sauer from her purse and Denny Williams reaches for a Glock at his back.

Tim rapidly draws Wendy’s gun and commands them to drop their weapons. Robertson aims at Luke, and Tim shoots her once, slamming her into the station’s glass door. Williams drops to a knee and aims at Tim; the shot goes wild into the ceiling as if jerked off target by an invisible force, giving Sheriff John time to kick Williams in the head and Billy Wicklow to stomp his wrist.

As Williams is being subdued, Julia Sigsby, realizing the operation inside has failed, orders outside operatives Louis Grant and Tom Jones to open fire with heavier weapons. She deems Williams and Robertson expendable, prioritizing the objective of killing or capturing Luke.
