As gunfire outside pauses, Tim Jamieson helps a dazed Wendy Gullickson to her feet and orders her to take Luke Ellis out the back. Luke instead runs for the sheriff’s desk to secure the cracked laptop and Maureen Alvorson’s flash drive, having heard Julia Sigsby demanding, "Make sure you get the boy."

Alice Green and Tom Jones burst through the shattered doors. Tag Faraday raises his weapon but is cut down by Jones, and Frank Potter is executed by Green. When gunfire in the street distracts Jones, Tim double-taps him, killing him. Alice advances with Julia Sigsby behind her, who calmly instructs Alice to pull Luke out and shoot him.

Tim’s pistol runs dry. Luke rises and smashes the laptop into Alice’s face, buying a moment to yank the flash drive. Wendy retrieves Tag’s Glock and fires three times, killing Alice with a headshot; her third round strikes Sigsby in the leg, disarming and dropping her. Sigsby asserts that Luke is "property," which Tim rejects.

Drummer Denton, wounded but mobile, enters with Gutaale Dobira, followed by Orphan Annie, Addie Goolsby, and Richard Bilson. Annie reports the attackers from the vans are accounted for: several dead, two wounded (one shot in the foot, one badly wounded by Dobira). Inside, the Sheriff’s Department is devastated.

Luke fixates on Sigsby, demanding to know who runs the Institute in her absence, naming Stackhouse. When she refuses to answer, Luke tortures her bullet wound with his thumb and rages about the abuses at the Institute—zap-sticks, injections, near-drowning, and mental destruction—while doors slam from his telekinetic outburst. Tim advises Sigsby to cooperate, warning of her legal jeopardy, as Wendy acknowledges Luke told the truth.

Doc Roper arrives, shocked by the carnage, and moves to treat Sigsby, calling for an ambulance. Sigsby smiles triumphantly at Luke, believing medical aid gives her leverage. Annie suggests the foot-shot attacker will talk for morphine; Sigsby panics and forbids it. Tim dismisses her authority and orders Luke and Wendy to accompany him, declaring her kidnapping operation finished.
