Summary
After dinner at Cam’s kitchen counter, Dusty tells Cam he has been waiting a long time for the time and space they now have together, clarifying that it is not about the meal but about finally having time with her. He kisses Cam softly, and she apologizes for being the reason their time together ended in the past.
Dusty gently holds Cam and assures her he does not blame her for leaving him in Montana. He admits he was heartbroken but explains that, over the years, he realized staying might not have guaranteed they would have made it. He recognized she was unhappy and that the life he wanted then did not match the life she envisioned for herself.
Cam says she saw a life with Dusty but realized she was living his life rather than her own, and ultimately defaulted into living the life her parents wanted. She now understands she left not because she lacked love, but because she needed something for herself too.
Dusty responds that her choice to leave is what makes their present possible. He reflects that they were young and in love, but love alone was not enough then amid pressures of timing, dreams, and stress. He frames their separate paths as roads that can return to each other and asks if they are coming back together now.
Cam admits Dusty’s forthrightness once made her feel unworthy and still makes her nervous, but now it also makes her feel secure about their past, present, and future. Dusty asks where they are going, and Cam answers “forward,” which he affirms with another kiss.
The moment turns intimate and focused solely on them, with Cam feeling three unspoken words—implying “I love you”—caught in her throat, and Dusty seeming to understand without her saying them.
