Summary
Cam woke early, missing Dusty after he had not stayed the night. Remembering Ada and Wes’s advice, she acknowledged her anger but decided the house secret did not have to end their relationship if they talked. Looking out the window, she noticed an envelope taped to the glass addressed to “Ash” in Dusty’s handwriting, with Dusty’s keepsake box left below it.
Inside, Cam found Dusty’s note apologizing for not telling her about the house and stating, “I love you,” along with a stack of tri-folded papers and many unfolded notes. She opened the box and read through years’ worth of messages Dusty had written to her from the road, describing places he worked, songs and sights that reminded him of her, and how much he missed her.
Near the bottom, Cam found documents mentioning change of property ownership and a deed listing her home’s address. Realizing Dusty had transferred the house to her, she rushed to his door, demanding an explanation. Dusty described it as a grand gesture and confirmed it was a deed, then apologized for keeping the purchase secret and acknowledged buying it years ago with her in mind.
Dusty confessed he had loved Cameron Wilson since he was seventeen, that letting her go had hurt but felt right at the time, and that he had never lost hope they would find their way back. He promised the house was hers with no strings, offered to move out if she wanted, and said he wanted to be part of Riley’s life—attending soccer games and carrying Riley to bed—while committing to proceed on Cam’s terms.
Moved, Cam focused on his “I love you,” and Dusty reaffirmed it, saying he loved her madly, deeply, and across who she was, is, and will be. Cam, crying, told Dusty she loved him in the same ways. The tension broke with light teasing about “copying” his confession, and then Dusty kissed her.
They stood together in the dawn light of Meadowlark, sealing their reconciliation with a kiss and embracing a new beginning for their relationship and family.
