Summary
Dusty narrated arriving at the packed Meadowlark Rec Center with Cam for Riley’s seven-year-old soccer game, determined not to miss the first event Riley asked him to attend. He resisted the urge to hold Cam’s hand, settling for light touches as they joined Gus, Teddy, Riley, Aggie, and Hank on the bleachers. Gus struggled with Riley’s curls until Cam took over, and Teddy immediately teased Cam and Dusty about their status as a couple.
Aggie privately asked Dusty if there was news, signaling she noticed the shift, while Cam remained cautious. To deflect Teddy’s probing, Dusty joked about being bucked off a horse. As the game began, Dusty admitted he knew little about soccer, recalling that past attempts by Cam to teach him devolved into making out, but he cheered for Riley and encouraged her, comparing her potential to Cam’s.
During casual chatter, Teddy tried to convince Dusty to adopt a cat despite his allergies, drawing a laugh from Cam. Aggie asked how Cam and Riley were settling into Anne Wilson’s house; Cam said it felt like hers and that Riley loved it, though Cam worried about Riley climbing trees when it warmed up. Dusty noticed townspeople watching them but felt proud to be there with Cam and Riley.
Late in the short game, Riley broke away with the ball and scored a goal. Dusty and Gus erupted in celebration, even bro-hugging. In the excitement, Dusty pulled Cam close and kissed her temple; Aggie squealed, using Dusty’s full name, “Terrance Tucker,” which surprised Teddy and made Cam laugh. Cam intertwined her fingers with Dusty’s arm, tacitly accepting the public display and affirming their renewed connection in front of family.
Riley ran to her parents for hugs, basking in their pride. Aggie hugged Dusty again and warned him not to mess up the second chance with his first love. When Riley called Dusty over, she shyly showed him she was wearing the bracelet he gave her and asked if it was good luck. Dusty agreed, affirming their growing bond.
