Dusty Tucker arrived early at the Rebel Blue stables and tacked up Huey, a favorite horse he often competed with Emmy for by arriving first. As Dusty photographed Huey to tease Emmy, Amos Ryder and Gus Ryder entered the barn and greeted him.

Amos joked about Emmy’s tendency to get what she wanted, while Gus probed Dusty about his schedule, indirectly referencing Dusty’s responsibilities as caretaker at Anne Wilson’s property, soon to be rented by Cam. Amos redirected the conversation to a “job” they wanted to discuss with Dusty.

Amos and Gus praised Dusty’s work managing ranch hands and maintenance, then revealed they had been working to establish a horse sanctuary at Rebel Blue. They noted the ranch’s space, including an empty barn, and asked about Dusty’s prior sanctuary experience. Dusty confirmed he had worked at several sanctuaries, including one in Mexico, and spoke fondly of the animals there.

Gus emphasized that the role would be long-term and that they lacked capacity to launch and sustain the sanctuary without Dusty. He also acknowledged Dusty’s history of moving around, which made Dusty feel challenged and slightly defensive.

Determined to prove his commitment to Meadowlark, Dusty stated he was in it for the long haul. Amos responded with warm confidence, telling Dusty there was no question he was the right man for the job, which deeply affected Dusty. In contrast, Gus looked unconvinced.

Gus invited Dusty to ride out to review the details, and Dusty accepted, thanking them for the opportunity. Dusty resolved to prove Gus wrong about doubting him as he stepped into leading the sanctuary effort.
