Contains spoilersOverview
Jo sneaks into the Revelry on a quiet Wednesday to play the Steinway and unexpectedly finds inspiration while telepathically reconnecting with "Sasha." Together they shape a new melody that feels both hopeful and bittersweet. Outside, Jo runs into old flame Van, exchanges numbers, and agrees to try bacon ice cream. Afterward, Sasha proposes they meet in person to solve their link, and Jo finally agrees.
Summary
On a usually eventless Wednesday, Jo pulls out the Revelry’s old Steinway and plays through classic chord progressions, weaving familiar songs and remembering how music transformed Wyn. As she plays, Jo briefly rediscovers the joy and “magic” of making music, feeling less empty than she has in a long time.
The telepathic link with "Sasha" warms back to life, and he listens as Jo experiments at the piano. At his encouragement, Jo hums a dissonant chord to capture her mood, and Sasha hums along, adding a hook that helps a melody take shape. The moment evokes Jo’s childhood duets with Wyn. Sasha describes the feeling as “something bitter and sweet…like a kiss goodbye,” which startles Jo into pulling back from the intimacy.
Jo and Sasha admit they still have no solution for their connection and consider that meeting might help. Stepping outside to lock up, Jo is interrupted by Van, who arrives with doughnuts. They banter about work and a new ice cream shop; despite internal reservations and Sasha’s teasing, Jo gives Van her number and agrees to meet for bacon ice cream.
After Van leaves, Jo’s phone rings from a Santa Ana number; it is Sasha calling, having memorized her number as she thought it. He notes Jo’s lingering “baggage” with Van and returns to the idea of meeting in person to tackle their link. Jo worries about turning their disembodied familiarity into a real-life encounter and whether Sasha will match the image she has built in her mind.
Jo walks to the beach, watches a family fly a kite, and weighs the risks and possibilities. Concluding that they are not strangers anymore and that meeting might help, Jo agrees to meet Sasha in person.
