Szeth breaches the feast hall of King Hanavanar of Jah Keved, cutting down guests and guards while forcing himself to hear every scream. He blocks the exit with a Lashed table and continues the slaughter, wracked by self-hatred yet obeying his command to kill as Truthless.

As Szeth advances on Hanavanar, two hidden Shardbearers burst from beneath the king’s table. Soldiers flood in wielding half-shard shields. The king boasts of the trap, but Szeth drops his Shardblade and draws in immense Stormlight, deciding his body and Lashings are the true weapons.

Szeth weaves through the ambushers, using kammar to make contact and Lashing men upward, to walls, and into their own Shardbearers. A triple-Lashed knife is deflected by Hanavanar’s shield, but Szeth keeps shifting weight and orientation, scattering soldiers and reclaiming Stormlight from fallen spheres.

He then over-Lashes a stone block in the wall and drops it with tremendous acceleration, crushing the red-armored Shardbearer. He rides a Lashed tabletop to fling the gold-armored Shardbearer, then triple-Lashes himself downward and drives his re-summoned Shardblade through the man’s chest, shattering Plate.

With his defenders broken, Hanavanar flees. Szeth glides through the remaining guards, shattering the king’s half-shard shield, pinning him with a heavy downward Lashing, and cutting down nearby soldiers. When asked what he is, Szeth answers, “Death,” and kills Hanavanar with a Shardblade thrust through the face.
