Summary

On Saturday, July 26, a group of about twenty guests gathers outside the tree house during Percy and Sam’s party for a reveal orchestrated by Charlie. The tree house is covered with a massive cloth, lanterns glow, and Harrison holds a rope to assist. Charlie speaks briefly, telling stories and expressing his happiness about becoming an uncle, reassuring Percy about motherhood, and turning to Sam to say he loves him and wishes their parents were present to witness this moment.

As emotion rises and Sam’s eyes water, Alice moves to stand beside Charlie to support him. Charlie cues Harrison and connects extension cords as the cover drops, revealing the tree house wrapped in thousands of white lights across decks, trunks, rooflines, and frames. The crowd gasps and applauds; Percy cries and Sam, awed, hugs Charlie and thanks him, calling it over the top but meaningful.

Alice steps away to give the brothers privacy, has a drink with Harrison, and chats with Percy’s parents on the porch. When she returns inside, the party has thinned. She tells Percy she plans to leave and asks where Charlie is; Chantal says he was in the kitchen earlier, while Delilah saw him slip back toward the tree house.

Percy offers to walk Alice to the tree house. Under a starry sky, they pause to admire how many stars are visible compared to the city, and Percy remarks that she loves the lake. On the path, Percy gently raises Alice and Charlie’s relationship, saying she believes they could be good for each other and that Charlie has a big heart, even if it is sometimes masked by joking.

Alice insists they are just friends and that it will not become more. Percy, undeterred, notes that Alice is different from the women Charlie usually spends time with and that he looks at Alice differently. She teases Alice about a visible hickey, prompting Alice to flush and touch her neck, silently confirming Percy’s observation.

Before they part at the ladder to the tree house, Percy links arms with Alice, asks for her phone, and texts herself to exchange contact information. She invites Alice to reach out, saying it would be nice to have a friend who can handle the Brothers Florek, then heads back to the house barefoot, leaving Alice to continue toward Charlie.
