Overview
Summary
Returning to the cottage with Nick after their dawn beach trip, Rocky suddenly remembers she hasn't told him about Maya's pregnancy. She blurts it out, then struggles to recall when Maya confided in her, finishing off a stale cup of coffee while Nick takes in the news.
Nick's expression tightens, and Rocky recognizes his hurt at being left out of the loop. She apologizes, explaining she was waiting until Maya told Jamie, but quickly the conversation escalates. Rocky lashes out, accusing Nick of avoiding emotional labor and then resenting being excluded from it, leaving her to carry that weight alone.
Nick pushes back, telling Rocky that someone has to handle logistics and stay grounded, and gently suggests she places herself at the center of dramas that don't always need her there. He calls her a narcissist, half-jokingly, and Rocky concedes the point. They trade honest critiques without full apologies, settling into the familiar friction of a long marriage.
The argument dissolves into desire. Rocky climbs into Nick's lap and they kiss in the hot car. Even amid menopause and her reproductive grief, she treasures being wanted by him. Nick presses against her and whispers that she's going to be a hot grandma, and Rocky absorbs the dizzying truth: their baby is having a baby—maybe.
