After a brief, tearful moment alone following Koen’s departure, Serena goes to her appointment with Layla. Saul is waiting outside with a blond woman named Jess, and Serena heads inside while Saul stays behind. When Serena hears Layla weakly call her into the office, Serena’s instincts warn that something is wrong. Serena reaches for her knife and phone, but Jess attacks from behind, disables Serena’s hand, and reveals that Saul has been knocked out.

Serena fights back, cuts Jess, and nearly escapes, but more Weres join the ambush and drag Serena into Layla’s office. Inside, Serena finds Layla heavily sedated and held at knifepoint by an older man while another restrains Serena. The kidnappers call Serena “Eva,” claim they are the same as Serena, and say they were denied their families. Before Serena can get answers, one of them presses a drugged cloth over Serena’s mouth and knocks her unconscious.

Serena wakes later in a comfortable, unguarded cabin during heavy rain. The lack of bars and guards makes the situation feel unlike her previous kidnappings. Downstairs, a gray-haired Were woman warmly greets Serena, offers food and drink, and insists Serena is not a prisoner and may leave whenever she wants. The woman, Irene, says the kidnappers only wanted a chance to speak candidly because Koen is too protective. When Serena tries to leave immediately, Irene stops her by claiming to be Serena’s only family and shows Serena an old photograph of Fiona, whose resemblance to Serena is unmistakable.

Serena stays to hear Irene out. Irene identifies herself as Constantine’s sister, making her Serena’s aunt, and says Constantine was Serena’s father. Irene explains that Fiona was born among the Favored and was pregnant in a cult community where Constantine had many partners, though Fiona insisted the baby was his. Irene shows Serena more photographs of Fiona pregnant and caring for young Serena, describes Fiona as loving, intelligent, and devoted, and says Fiona kept a diary of Serena’s milestones. The images and details break through Serena’s defenses, and Serena cries as Irene insists that Fiona adored her and that Serena was taken from them when the Northwest hunted the Favored.

Serena challenges Irene’s version of history, asking about Constantine’s killings and Koen’s parents. Irene defends Constantine as the rightful Alpha who was cheated, claims Koen is an illegitimate leader, and frames the Favored as persecuted survivors. Irene also reveals that Jess was one of the Favored, retained her memories, gained access to Serena’s clinical file, delivered the necklace, and informed them about Serena’s approaching Heat. When Serena demands to go back for the injection, Irene says there is no need because Favored Weres can “service” Serena and perhaps produce Constantine’s heir. Irene then makes the true threat clear: the Favored believe Serena has made Koen vulnerable, they expect Koen to come for her, and Irene ends by offering Serena Fiona’s last letter.
