Moments later, several wolves crash through the cabin windows and the Northwest pack storms the cult hideout. Koen frees Serena in the chaos, orders Saul to guard her, and shifts to pursue Irene after giving Serena her pink knife. While the fighting continues, Serena finds Nele, Nele's family, and two Human boys hiding in terror; Serena reassures them that the pack came only for her, insists they will not be harmed, and admits that Koen feels more like family than Irene does.

The six Humans from the cabin have been moved into Northwest territory as protected guests under surveillance, since Irene might either reclaim them or silence them. Serena also learns that the cult is much larger than the cabin group, with more than fifty members still at large, and she asks Amanda to give Nele a way to contact her.

In private, Layla examines Serena and delivers the real crisis: Serena is too far into Heat for the suppressant injection, and giving it now could prolong the Heat, worsen it, or damage Serena permanently.
