After Irene reveals that Koen killed Fiona, Koen calmly confirms that he had already suspected Fiona and Constantine were Serena’s parents. He explains that he led the raids against the cult, personally killed Constantine, and left Constantine’s body behind after taking his heart back to Northwest territory. When Serena asks about Fiona, Koen says he cannot be certain at first, but once Irene confirms Fiona was with Constantine that night, Koen admits that he killed Fiona too because she would have been among the people shielding Constantine.

Serena presses Koen on what happened to her as a child. Koen remembers finding a dark-haired Human girl hiding silently in a closet during the raid and bringing that child to Human social services. He and Lowe later tried to trace cult children after learning about hybrids, but officials claimed all children had been accounted for. Koen now believes that was a lie, and that someone recognized Serena as a hybrid, alerted Governor Davenport, and Serena disappeared into whatever happened before she resurfaced in Paris years later.

Koen also admits the broader truth Serena cannot bear: whether or not he personally tore out Fiona’s throat, all killings by his seconds were sanctioned by him, so he considers himself responsible. Serena is devastated that Koen killed both of her parents, found her afterward, and still left her behind. Koen does not defend himself or soften the reality, and Serena is overwhelmed by grief and rage at both the losses themselves and Koen’s inability to remember every individual death among the many he caused.

Irene exploits Serena’s anger, telling her that Koen stole her family, her home, and any chance at a happy childhood with Fiona and Irene. Irene slides Serena’s knife to her and pressures her to take revenge. In a dazed state, Serena takes the knife and approaches Koen while Favored members hold him still, but Koen remains entirely passive, leaving his life in Serena’s hands. At the last moment, instead of cutting Koen’s throat, Serena slices through the ropes binding his wrists and frees him.
