Chapter Four
Overview
At the Summer Solstice, Feyre secretly hijacks Ianthe's dawn ritual by shifting the ceremony's focal point and using her light power so the rising sun appears to bless Feyre instead. Lucien's public kneeling seals the moment, humiliating Ianthe, unsettling Tamlin, and turning Feyre into an object of awe for the Spring Court.
Afterward, Feyre briefly contacts Rhys through their bond and confirms his court is enduring, then resumes manipulating Tamlin by dancing with him and probing his guilt over Calanmai. The chapter shows Feyre weaponizing image, faith, and Tamlin's hopes to weaken the court from within.
Summary
Summer Solstice arrives at the Spring Court with all the old decorations and revelry, but Ianthe now controls the dawn observance with a formal ritual. Feyre presents herself as a pure, serene consort in white and goes with Tamlin to the hilltop ceremony, all while remembering the happier solstice before Under the Mountain and the wedding she never finished. Those memories sharpen Feyre's resolve, because she sees how many people knew she had been suffering and still allowed Tamlin's version of events to stand.
During Ianthe's long ceremony, Feyre quietly plays along while helping direct its structure. Ianthe grandly blesses the day, forces Brannagh and Dagdan to drink sacred wine, and stations Tamlin and Jurian at the altar for later parts of the ritual. Feyre has already shifted Ianthe's marker stone with magic, so when the sun rises, the light falls on Feyre instead of Ianthe. Feyre then releases her own light power, making it appear that the solstice itself has chosen and blessed her.
The crowd immediately turns its awe toward Feyre, not Ianthe. Lucien understands what Feyre has done and strengthens the illusion by taking her hand, kneeling, and pressing her fingers to his brow; the others follow his lead. That public act strips Ianthe of authority in the moment and recasts Feyre as a holy, Cauldron-blessed figure in the eyes of the court. Feyre openly enjoys Ianthe's humiliation while making sure everyone sees only grace and surprise.
As the festivities continue in the hills, Ianthe spends hours trying to explain away the event by claiming the Cauldron favored Feyre through her, but most people are far more interested in Feyre herself. Tamlin is unsettled by the display, though he is too occupied greeting his people to challenge it. Feyre uses the court's devotion strategically, accepting their reverence and touch with calm gratitude to deepen her influence. Later, in private, Feyre reaches Rhys through their bond, shares what happened, confirms that everyone in the Night Court is surviving, and feels the ache of missing him when he says he wishes he could be with her.
Back at the evening celebration, Feyre decides to keep feeding Tamlin's hopes and asks him to dance. She endures multiple dances, then uses a quieter moment to ask whether he is upset about the morning and to bring up Lucien's revelation that Tamlin refused to complete the Calanmai Rite. Tamlin says he could not stomach it, which gives Feyre another glimpse of his guilt and weakness even as she continues her performance of intimacy. The chapter ends with Feyre sitting beside Tamlin through dinner and later watching the stars while thinking about the peace Hybern's alliance will destroy.
