Feyre prepares to visit her sisters in the House of Wind and finds Lucien waiting downstairs in filthy travel clothes, visibly unsettled by her closeness to Rhysand and by their matching rings. When Lucien reacts with contempt to the mating bond and to Feyre’s new place in the Night Court, Rhys sharply warns him that he will not tolerate any disrespect or threats in his home. Rhys then defends Feyre, makes clear that he had loved her long before she chose him, and reminds Lucien that Tamlin imprisoned and terrified her; the confrontation forces Lucien to recognize that there is far more to Feyre and Rhys’s story than he understood.

Feyre invites Lucien to come to the House of Wind so he might eventually see Elain, and Cassian carries Lucien while Rhys flies Feyre there. On the balcony overlooking Velaris, Feyre tells Lucien the fuller history of Rhys saving her on Calanmai, the truth behind his feared persona, and the way the Inner Circle became her family. Rhys adds enough of his own past to support Feyre’s account, and Cassian describes what it was like to watch Feyre and Rhys fall in love. By the end, Lucien admits that he had misjudged Rhys, the Night Court, and even his own role in Feyre’s life, though he chooses to wait outside until Elain is ready.

Feyre, Rhys, and Cassian then go to find Nesta in the library. Nesta is cold, controlled, and cutting, but no longer physically fragile; Feyre is struck by how formidable she has become as High Fae. Cassian needles Nesta, and their exchange reveals both her refusal to train or discuss her powers and his intense attention to her. When Feyre mentions that Elain’s mate is here, Nesta reacts with fierce anger, rejects Lucien’s claim on Elain, and makes clear that Elain has been crying, refusing food and rest, and shutting herself away.

Feyre insists that Elain will not be forced to see Lucien and that the choice will be Elain’s alone. Nesta dismisses them and returns to her book, but Feyre notices the deeper emotional current beneath the hostility: Cassian looks at Nesta with sorrow and longing. That moment suggests that Nesta’s cruelty is not the only thing shaping their dynamic, and that the trauma from Hybern has left wounds neither of them knows how to face.

In Elain’s sunlit room, Feyre finds a far more frightening response to trauma. Elain sits motionless in white, hollowed out by grief, still wearing her human engagement ring and speaking only of wanting to go home and of the wedding she was meant to have next week. Feyre is overwhelmed by guilt for what happened to her sisters and cannot bring herself to ask about Lucien. As Rhys gently offers help, Lucien appears in the doorway and silently witnesses Elain’s devastation, making plain that any hope of an easy reunion between them is impossible.
