Overview
Feyre takes Nesta to the House of Wind library to continue researching the wall, and the sisters begin to edge toward an honest conversation about their shared past and Nesta's strange instinct for hidden knowledge. That fragile moment is shattered when Hybern's agents infiltrate the library, disable Feyre and Nesta with faebane, and reveal that the king has specifically targeted Nesta.
The chapter turns a quiet research trip into a major threat by showing that Hybern can breach the Night Court's protections and that Nesta's connection to the Cauldron is even more important than the court realized. The Ravens' revelation confirms that Nesta took power from the Cauldron, raising the stakes around her role in the coming war.
Summary
The day after flying lessons, Feyre is too sore to train, but Cassian and Azriel arrive anyway. Feyre sends Cassian to fly Nesta to the House of Wind because Feyre cannot manage it herself, while Azriel helps Elain into the garden. At breakfast, Elain unsettles Cassian by bluntly noting that his injuries could have killed him, and Feyre notices the strained, watchful dynamics between her sisters and the two Illyrians.
At the library beneath the House, Feyre brings Nesta to the desk where Clotho found useful books and asks how Nesta knows what to search for about the wall. Nesta admits that she somehow just knows when information might be important, a gift Amren told her to follow even though it frightens her. As they move deeper into the stacks, Feyre explains the priestesses' sanctuary and the Night Court's plan to shelter humans.
In the quiet below the mountain, the sisters briefly confront old wounds. Nesta notices Feyre still has to sound out some titles and asks why Feyre never asked her or Elain to teach her to read. Feyre answers that she did not believe they would help, and when Feyre asks why Nesta pushes everyone away except Elain, Nesta seems about to answer before something interrupts them.
A strange ripple passes through the library, and the faelights begin going dark one by one. Feyre senses danger, grabs Nesta, and runs through the stacks while trying and failing to contact Rhys through the bond. When Feyre attempts to winnow them away, two male High Fae in Hybern's colors step from the darkness and blow faebane dust into Feyre and Nesta, cutting off their magic. A hooded priestess lies collapsed behind them.
The intruders call themselves the king's Ravens, explaining that their master helped them breach the wards and manipulate minds so they could enter disguised as scholars. They say they intended to find Nesta and now have come to take her back, with Feyre as an unexpected prize. The Ravens reveal the reason for their mission: Nesta stole power from the Cauldron, and the King of Hybern wants that stolen power returned.
