Chapter Forty One
Overview
The Night Court finalizes plans for the High Lords’ meeting, which will be held in the Dawn Court, while Amren pushes to unlock a way to mend the wall through Nesta and the Book. As Feyre’s fear of another diplomatic disaster rises, Rhys reinforces her status as his equal by taking her to the Night Court’s treasury and having her choose a crown. The chapter ends with a significant shift in plans when Nesta unexpectedly declares that she will attend the summit.
Summary
Over two hectic days, the Night Court prepares for the meeting of the High Lords. Azriel returns after delivering Mor’s messages, and the courts finally agree to gather in the Dawn Court after rejecting every other proposed location. Beron agrees to attend, but the Spring Court sends no reply. At the same time, Amren continues training Nesta and studying the Book, believing she has found a passage that might help repair the wall if she can decipher it in time.
The night before the meeting, Rhys, Mor, and Azriel review everything they know about Thesan’s palace, focusing on threats, traps, and escape routes. Feyre grows increasingly anxious because the approaching summit reminds her of Hybern and of how badly their last attempt at diplomacy failed. Amren interrupts occasionally with warnings, then returns to the Book, while Nesta leaves with a headache after practice. Feyre eats little, sleeps badly, and finally confides her fears to Rhys.
Later, Rhys takes Feyre to a heavily warded chamber in the House of Wind that holds the Night Court’s ancestral treasures. He tells Feyre that the jewels and crowns belong to her by law and tradition and invites her to choose whatever she wants. The gesture matters because it confirms that Feyre is not merely Rhys’s mate but his acknowledged equal, with full claim to his family’s legacy. Feyre chooses a silver-and-diamond crown of stars and moon phases because she feels drawn to it rather than choosing for appearances alone.
On the morning of the summit, the inner circle gathers in formal dress to leave. Feyre wears her refashioned Starfall gown and the chosen crown, visually pairing her with Rhys as High Lady beside the High Lord of Night. Cassian, Mor, and Azriel banter while they wait for Rhys, easing some tension. When Rhys comes downstairs, his reaction to Feyre’s appearance shows how deeply the moment affects him.
Then Nesta appears, dressed for court rather than training. The room tenses because she and Cassian have not truly faced each other since Adriata, and Mor is alert to any conflict. Instead of lashing out, Nesta surprises everyone by calmly telling Feyre she looks beautiful. When Feyre asks why she is dressed so formally instead of practicing with Amren, Nesta reveals the chapter’s final turn: she is going with them to the meeting.
