When no message arrives from the Summer Court, Rhysand follows through on his plan to take Feyre to the mortal realm. As Feyre dresses, Mor asks what human women wear, and the conversation turns from clothing to the way women are controlled in both human society and parts of Prythian. Mor then reveals that in the Court of Nightmares, powerful females are treated like assets to be bartered into marriage, and that when her own great power emerged, the ruling families sought to breed it into their bloodlines.

Feyre asks about Mor’s family, and Mor says they were delighted by the alliances her power could secure. Mor does not tell the full story of how she escaped, but she explains that she will not go to the mortal lands because she cannot bear how humans treat women, though she will attend when the queens come. She adds that Rhys tried to persuade her otherwise, while Cassian understood and supported her; Mor also reveals that Cassian helped Rhys get her out of the Hewn City at great personal risk, and she praises both Cassian and Azriel as better males than those she knew there.

Before leaving, Feyre tells Mor that she wants her sisters to meet her someday and hear her story, because Mor’s survival shows a particular strength in enduring cruelty without losing kindness. Feyre also apologizes for not welcoming Mor warmly when she first arrived in the Night Court. Mor responds with compassion, admitting she still has hard days herself and urging Feyre not to let those hard days win.

At departure, Amren and Mor remain in Velaris to manage the city and prepare for the eventual trip to Hybern, leaving Rhys, Cassian, and Azriel to accompany Feyre. Faced with choosing who will carry her in flight, Feyre avoids Rhys because being near him stirs memories of his mind, his suffering, and his gentleness toward her. Instead, she chooses Azriel, surprising Rhys and Cassian but drawing no protest from the shadowsinger.

Rhys winnows them to the coast near the Wall, where a tear in its magic lies offshore. Azriel carries Feyre through the air toward the opening, and as they approach, Feyre perceives the Wall differently now that she is Fae: not visible, but crackling with power and repellent to her senses. During the flight, Feyre admits she no longer knows where she belongs, and Azriel quietly confesses that even after centuries, he is unsure of his own place as well.

Azriel finds the cleft and flies them through before the Wall can seal it, and the air on the other side turns harsher and colder. They pass over a beach, white cliffs, and winter-struck land as they follow Rhys and Cassian inland. Seeing the human territory below, Feyre recognizes it at once as the mortal lands she once called home.
