Chapter Twenty Seven
Overview
Feyre confronts Rhysand after realizing he deliberately used danger to force her dormant powers to surface, and she draws a hard boundary against being manipulated. Rhysand apologizes and accepts her anger, but the exchange exposes both the seriousness of Hybern’s interest in Feyre and the emotional distance she still keeps from Velaris. By the end of the chapter, Feyre has asserted her demand for real training and made clear that trust between them remains fragile.
Summary
In the snow outside the chateau, Feyre sprawls on top of Rhysand after the confrontation that forced her powers out. Furious, Feyre tells Rhysand never to use her as bait again. She argues that if Rhysand truly wants her to become a weapon, he must teach her rather than treat her like a pawn, and she warns that she will walk away if manipulation is part of his plan.
Rhysand immediately stops laughing and takes Feyre’s anger seriously. As Feyre shoves away from him, her talons vanish, proving that the incident did trigger one of her hidden abilities. Rhysand asks her to repeat what she did so he can study it, but Feyre refuses and says she only wants to return to the chateau because she is cold, tired, and still upset.
Rhysand apologizes and holds out a hand, a gesture that also reminds Feyre of his accusation that she had stopped fighting. Before taking it, Feyre presses him on a larger fear: whether the King of Hybern wants her because he knows she can use the Book to nullify the Cauldron’s power. Rhysand reins in his anger and answers that discovering Hybern’s true motive is exactly what he intends to do.
Rhysand apologizes again and suggests they eat breakfast before going home. Feyre sharply says that Velaris is not her home. The remark seems to hurt Rhysand, but he says nothing and winnows them back to her family’s house.
