Chapter Seventy-Five
Overview
In the immediate aftermath of Briallyn’s destruction, Nesta discovers Cassian survived and the two finally accept and voice their mating bond. Their brief moment of victory also confirms that Eris is safe and the Made dagger has been recovered. But the chapter ends by pivoting the story from triumph to urgency when Mor and Azriel arrive with alarming news about Feyre.
Summary
After Nesta unleashes her power against Briallyn, Nesta runs to Cassian in terror, expecting to find him stabbed. Instead, the knife is lying beneath Cassian without blood on it, and Cassian wakes with enough humor to explain that he decided to stay down while Nesta handled Briallyn. The immediate threat is over: Briallyn has been reduced to a black stain, and the Crown lies on the ground.
Cassian steadies Nesta as the shock breaks into tears. When Cassian tells Nesta that she unmade Briallyn, Nesta answers that Briallyn deserved it, showing both relief and hard-earned certainty about what she has done. In the aftermath of the battle, Nesta and Cassian finally speak the truth of their bond openly. Nesta tells Cassian that he is her mate, and Cassian claims her in return, sealing the moment with a kiss that confirms their mutual acceptance and joy.
Before Nesta can say more, Mor and Azriel arrive and interrupt the reunion. Their news resolves one part of the battle’s fallout: Eris is safe, and the Made dagger has been recovered, though Eris is angry and confused at the Hewn City. But Mor’s grave expression reveals a new crisis immediately replacing the old one when Mor says the real problem is Feyre.
