Chapter 11
Overview
Carl’s derailment works, and the wreck lets the group question Gore-Gore, the ochre line engineer, about what really happens at the end of the route. Gore-Gore’s answers reveal a crucial path forward: riders in the engine car can survive the gate back to the depot, while the employee portal may offer a second, riskier route.
When Gore-Gore learns Carl caused the crash, the encounter turns into a boss fight that nearly kills Mongo, injures Katia, and forces Carl to improvise before a dangerous Grull-related effect triggers. Carl kills Gore-Gore by knocking him onto the electrified track, then gains a new corporate sponsor, turning a successful ambush into a major strategic breakthrough.
Summary
Carl’s planted mines successfully derail the ochre line train at station 131, causing a massive wreck and triggering more crashes behind it. Carl levels up from the blast and, with Donut and Katia, quickly goes down to inspect the damage before another train can hit. They confirm the engine car survived mostly intact, several mobs in the passenger cars are dead, and the wreck has badly damaged the track.
When the engine car door opens, the group meets Gore-Gore, a level 40 mantaur engineer who mistakes them for fellow passengers. Because Donut’s charisma keeps him talking, Carl questions Gore-Gore about the end of the line. Gore-Gore explains that stop 435 is where employees leave, that the Kravyad handle an employee portal that causes memory loss for conductors and other workers, and that the engine car itself passes through a separate gate that returns the engineer and engine directly to the depot without deep-cleaning. This matters because it confirms passengers in the engine car could survive the trip, while passengers in the other cars would likely die during transport.
After Gore-Gore leaves for Club Vanquisher, Carl, Donut, and Katia piece together what they have learned. They conclude that reaching the stairwells may require stealing an engineer’s color-coded key and boarding an intact engine car, possibly by derailing one train and then using a faster line to catch another train farther ahead. Carl also realizes the employee portal may be a second route, though it likely involves memory loss and a fight against the Kravyad. The group plans to spread this information to other crawlers because the discovery could help many people escape the line’s loop.
The situation changes when Gore-Gore storms back out of the club, having learned that Carl’s group sabotaged the train. A ram-headed cleric inside the club appears to have informed him, and the game immediately declares a neighborhood boss battle. In the fight, Donut’s magic missiles prove ineffective, Carl uses smoke and fear to limit Gore-Gore’s vision, and Mongo is badly hurt by a single glancing strike. Katia blocks an attack meant for Carl and loses part of her metal arm, while Carl’s electrically enhanced punches steadily damage Gore-Gore but also build a cumulative chance of summoning Grull through Carl’s gauntlet.
After Gore-Gore grabs Carl and both of them are thrown down into the wreckage by Carl’s Protective Shell, Carl recovers with a healing potion and sees Gore-Gore’s health reduced to about 20 percent. Carl then realizes the gauntlet’s Grull-summoning chance has progressed far enough to trigger a countdown over Gore-Gore’s head, meaning the fight must end immediately. Carl uses Talon Strike to kick Gore-Gore onto the electrified rail, killing him in a short circuit before the divine effect can fully manifest. Donut pulls Carl to safety, the battle ends, and Carl receives a sponsorship from the Valtay Corporation before planning to loot the corpse and finally rest.
