Overview
Back in Lunathion, Bryce’s group realizes the Hind’s silence after Ydra is likely deliberate, and Bryce suspects Sofie’s hidden intel and its possible link to Danika may be the real danger. Baxian arrives, reveals himself as a rebel sympathizer, and warns that the Hind is waiting for them to expose what she wants. The chapter ends with the external threat giving way to an internal rupture when Hunt confronts Bryce over what she has done with Emile.
Summary
Back in Bryce’s apartment in Lunathion, the group compares what they learned after returning from the Ocean Queen. Ruhn reports that Declan could not identify the letters and numbers carved into Sofie’s arm, while Tharion has gone to the River Queen and Cormac has gone to manage his cover story with his father. Bryce is unsettled that the news shows nothing about Ydra and that the Hind has not moved against them, and she unsuccessfully tries to repeat the teleportation-like power she accessed before.
Hunt finishes a call with Isaiah and concludes that, unless Isaiah is hiding it, the 33rd seems unaware of what happened at Ydra or of the Hind seeing them. Bryce, Hunt, and Ruhn debate why the Hind is staying silent. Bryce reasons that the real issue may be Sofie’s hidden intelligence: the Hind killed Sofie to bury it, and she likely suspects Danika was connected to whatever Sofie knew. They cannot yet explain how Danika fits, but they recognize that they may be chasing a larger secret than Emile alone.
The tension briefly shifts into intimacy between Bryce and Hunt, showing how deeply their bond has changed after the voyage. That moment is interrupted when Baxian arrives uninvited and demands to know what they were really doing with Ophion. Bryce and Hunt try to bluff, but Baxian counters that their lies would collapse under scrutiny and reveals that he is himself a rebel sympathizer.
Baxian claims he warned and protected them before, says the Hind is likely letting them run loose so they will lead her to what she wants, and insists that he wants in on their plans. Hunt refuses to trust him, suspecting he could still be working some long game with the Hind. Baxian leaves after telling them to come find him when they want real answers, increasing the group’s uncertainty about both him and the Hind’s strategy.
After Ruhn departs, Bryce tries to lighten the mood with Hunt, but Hunt stops the flirtation and confronts her directly about Emile. Picking up on hints from earlier, Hunt accuses Bryce of secretly sending the boy to the Viper Queen, ending the chapter with a new conflict between them just as pressure from the Hind and the hidden intelligence continues to build.
