As a severe storm approaches Savannah, Alice preps her rental for potential power loss and considers Margaret’s offer to shelter with her. When Alice loses power and her phone dies, Hayden arrives through the storm, worried after being unable to reach her. Their confrontation turns into a vulnerable embrace and a decisive, intentional kiss, signaling a shift from tension to open connection.
Summary
After a recording session, Alice walks with Margaret Grace Ives to the door and learns a storm is likely to hit Savannah the next day; Margaret invites Alice to hunker down at her house. Alice heads to a crowded grocery store, stocks up on water, candles, batteries, and nonperishables, and returns to find the rental company has boarded her windows. As rain intensifies, she methodically prepares the bungalow: checking lanterns, placing candles, locating the fire extinguisher and first aid kit, and setting her documents by the door.
Hunger and nerves lead Alice to cook before the thunder moves too close; she realizes her phone battery died and begins charging it. As the wind howls and TV murmurs in the background, power suddenly cuts out just as Alice receives a text from Margaret reiterating the invitation to come over. Alice lights lanterns and candles and discovers she has no internet without electricity. She tries to distract herself with work but startles when heavy knocks hit the door in the storm.
Looking through the peephole, Alice sees Hayden at the door, soaked and windswept. She pulls him inside and angrily scolds him for risking the storm; Hayden shouts that neither she nor Margaret answered, and he feared for her safety. Recognizing his worry rather than irritation, Alice hugs him, and they hold each other as he shivers and apologizes.
They both admit they were wrong and have things to explain, but Alice first fetches dry clothes and towels for Hayden. Before heading to the bathroom, Hayden pauses, cups her neck, and kisses her deeply and deliberately. The kiss contrasts with their earlier, hurried encounters—this time slow, exploratory, and intimate—culminating in a gentle parting before Hayden goes to change, leaving Alice smiling, energized, and relieved in the candlelit dark.
