Raeve jolts awake from a vivid, painful dream feeling as if something vital has been torn away from her. As she gets her bearings, she pieces together the most recent events: the Fate Herder, Hock striking her, Kaan killing Hock, and Kaan giving her his mlmr. Raeve realizes she has been washed, dressed, and healed, and that her head wound has been completely repaired, which tells her someone with power or skill has tended to her after her capture.

While studying her reflection, Raeve is hit by a sudden vision of moving the mirror aside and retrieving a hidden leather-bound book from a cavity in the wall. When she follows the impulse, she finds the hollow space exactly where the vision suggested, but it is empty. The experience unsettles her because it feels like a memory or instinct she cannot fully access, suggesting a deeper connection to this place or to a past she still cannot recover.

Veya then enters the room. She identifies herself as Kaan’s sister, immediately makes clear that she distrusts Raeve, and warns Raeve not to hurt Kaan again. Through Veya’s taunts, Raeve learns that Kaan was injured protecting her from being forced into breeding and that Veya knows enough about Raeve and Kaan’s earlier encounter to resent Raeve’s effect on him. Their exchange establishes that Kaan cares for Raeve more deeply than he admits and that Veya sees Raeve as a threat to her brother’s emotional stability.

As Veya leaves, Raeve suddenly blurts out Veya’s name without understanding how she knows it. The reaction shocks Veya, who demands to know whether Raeve remembers her, but Raeve insists she does not. After shutting Veya out, Raeve opens the shutters and steps onto the balcony. From the view of the bay, the cliffside city, and the moon-filled sky, Raeve recognizes where she has been taken: Dhomm.
